OX: CIAS Senior Show

Fish Story

In 2007, working with another undergraduate, I presented, OX: CIAS Senior Show, a multidisciplinary exhibition of quality artwork by graduating seniors at Rochester Institute of Technology. Inspired from the thought that artistic endeavors are more important and signifigant to an art student than simply recieving a diploma, an exhibition catalogue was created as a keepsake for the show. In a way, it served as an art school yearbook.

Pause, to Begin is a unique photography competition born in discussions about the direction of contemporary photography today.

Pause, to Begin was founded in late October 2007; since that time it has grown and developed to include 15 selected photographers displayed in an exhibition, two books, and individual multimedia presentations available online at pausetobegin.com

Fish Story is a limited edition fine art book of photographs showing familiar objects and places. The photographs are taken from the same distance; each photograph is sharp from 6 feet 7 inches away, the artist's height. This specific distance was chosen in an attempt to heighten the inherent awkwardness of standing that tall. Instead, the photographs reflect the artist's visual strength as the images focus on aesthetically pleasing content. This lack of connection between the impact of the distance and the pleasantness of the photographs creates a bit of an untruth, a tall tale, or Fish Story.

Fish Story is hand sewn, bound, and printed by the artist. It is produced in a limited edition of ten with two artist proofs.

The Artist with His First Camera

I photograph familiar subjects so I may focus on how time passes at varying rates. Thus, my photographs occur at varying times and in multiple places, however, in each photograph I strive for a sense of time and a lack of place. These elements, together with emotive qualities like trust and love, power and manipulation, I hope to convey a continual sense of coming of age; a tense endless transition.
